Scenic California Coast

Today, the second day of our long weekend we went for a long drive down south through the scenic coastal highway. Before that we had a chance in the morning to observe Independence day parade (American style) at downtown Monterey. It was really exciting to see the parade as it was very much different from our parade. The parade was mostly made up of old folks and many are volunteers. It was well attended and was full of fun. I managed to get a good video shot of the parade.

Our drive down south was through Highway 1, through Big Sur and scenic Californian coast. It was really picturesque and we were all mesmerised by the beautiful scenery of the pacific coast. The road was very winding but it was worth all the trouble. We stopped at many Point Vista (lookout point) to take photographs and video. We made many fellow travellers on holiday, especially on big Harley Davidsons. We made friends with all of them. They even have lady bikers on special Harleys.

One of the high point of our travel was when we reached a town called Piedras Blancas. There we were all excited to sea elephant seals beaching. There so many of them and we stopped to watch them basking in the sun. It was our first time seeing this wonderful animals from close range. We were told by the guide, the first time they came buy was in the 90s in small number. Now they are in thousands. These seals travelled 2 to 3000 miles in one migratory route to beach and have their cubs. We continue our trip and joined Highway 101 and headed North for Monterey. We reached home almost 10 at night, dead tired but worth all the fun.
